The Hawaii Medical Service Association Foundation announced 10 grants totaling over $317,000 earmarked for community organizations and health programs for the fourth quarter of 2007.
The grants approved by the foundation's board of directors will go to the following:
Counseling and Spiritual Care Center of Hawaii, $10,000;
Hale Naau Pono (Waianae Coast Community Mental Health Center Inc.), $50,000;
Hamakua Health Center, $50,000
Hawaii Pediatric Association Research and Education Fund, one grant for $23,000 to support the study of infants to predict the development of cerebral palsy and another grant of $8,625 for a prospective study of Hawaii children and coronary artery diameters:
Helping Hands Hawaii, $80,000 to implement a case management and billing system and to purchase laptop computers;
Hina Mauka, $50,000 to support substance abuse treatment services for homeless women at the Institute of Human Services;
St. Francis International Center for Healthcare Ethics, $20,000;
Tri-Isle Resource Conservation and Development Council Inc., $5,500 for safety inspections at more than 30 preschool playgrounds on Maui;
University of Hawaii, Department of Pediatrics, $19,950.
